Wishful Thinking

Foundations Collection

2021

"A reflection on the dreams we carry, the work required to pursue them, and the quiet hope that keeps us moving forward. "

The Question

What would you dare to wish for if you truly believed it could become possible?

What separates a passing wish from a dream we are willing to work toward?

About the Work

We all carry wishes.

Some are small and quietly held. Others become dreams that shape the direction of our lives. No two are exactly alike because what we hope for is deeply personal—formed by our experiences, our values, and the lives we imagine for ourselves.

Wishful Thinking began with a fascination with that space between imagining something and making it real.

A wish can begin as nothing more than a thought. But when we choose to pursue it, that thought can become a goal, a discipline, and eventually something tangible.

There is a particular joy in seeing something we once imagined become real—not because it was simply given to us, but because we showed up, worked toward it, and refused to let the original vision disappear.

This painting is a celebration of that feeling: the courage to wish, the patience to work, and the possibility of one day looking back and realizing that what once existed only in our imagination has become part of our lives.

From the Studio

Every painting teaches me something I wasn’t expecting.

While working on Wishful Thinking, I found myself thinking about the difference between simply wishing for something and choosing to pursue it.

We often celebrate the moment a dream is achieved, but rarely stop to consider all the quiet days that came before it—the practice, uncertainty, patience, failures, and persistence.

Perhaps that is part of what makes achieving something meaningful.

The dream begins in the imagination, but it is our actions that give it a place in the world.

Pause & Reflect

What is something you have wished for that still matters to you?

What dream would you continue pursuing even if it took years to achieve?

What are you willing to practice, sacrifice, or persist through to create the life you imagine?

Within the Collection

Wishful Thinking belongs to the Foundations Collection, a body of work representing an important period of experimentation, observation, and artistic development.

These paintings document the years in which I was building the technical foundation of my practice while exploring the ideas, subjects, and questions that naturally emerged along the way.

Looking back, these works are not simply records of what I painted at the time. They are records of how I was learning to see, think, and create.
