"A study of perception, identity, and the hidden stories that exist beneath outward appearances. "

The Question

How often do we mistake appearance for character?

What exists beneath the surface of what we think we know?

About the Work

Throughout history, stories and myths have explored the idea of the “beast within”—the contrast between what we see on the surface and what remains hidden beneath.

Majestic Beast began with a simple question: How often do we mistake appearance for character?

While creating this painting, I found myself reflecting on how quickly we form opinions based on what is visible, while the deeper truths of a person are often unseen. What may appear intimidating, distant, or unfamiliar on the outside may hold a story of vulnerability, strength, and complexity within.

This work became a reminder to look beyond first impressions—to remain curious enough to discover what lies beneath the surface, beyond the mask we show to the world.

From the Studio

Every painting teaches me something I wasn’t expecting.

While creating Majestic Beast, I found myself returning to the idea that appearances often become the stories we create about others. We naturally respond to what we can immediately see, yet the deeper truths of a person are rarely revealed at first glance.

This painting became a reminder to remain curious—to look beyond assumptions and recognize that every individual carries a story, a history, and a world that exists beneath the surface.

Pause & Reflect

What assumptions have shaped the way you see others?

Who has surprised you by revealing something deeper than you expected?

What stories remain unseen beneath the surface?
