I Missed You

"A reflection on the ache of absence and the quiet joy of finding your way back to someone you love. "
The Question
What makes coming home feel so meaningful?
Why does distance sometimes make us appreciate the people and moments we once took for granted?
And what is it about reunion that can make an ordinary moment feel extraordinary?
About the Work
There are people and places we carry with us even when they are far away.
We remember the moments we shared, the happiness we experienced together, and the quiet hope that perhaps there will be more memories waiting for us in the future.
I Missed You explores that space between absence and reunion—the longing that comes from being separated from someone we care about and the anticipation of seeing them again.
Distance has a way of changing our relationship with memory. Moments that once seemed ordinary can become precious when they are no longer within reach.
And perhaps that is what makes returning home so powerful.
It isn’t simply the moment of coming back.
It is the realization of how deeply someone was missed.

From the Studio
While creating I Missed You, I found myself thinking about how absence changes the way we experience the people we love.
When someone is always there, we can become accustomed to their presence. Distance interrupts that familiarity. It gives us the opportunity to recognize what their presence actually means to us.
The happiest part of returning isn’t always the place we return to.
Sometimes, it is the person waiting there.
This painting became a quiet reminder to cherish the people who matter to us—not only when we miss them, but while they are still beside us.
Pause & Reflect
Who is someone whose absence has made you appreciate their presence more deeply?
What ordinary memory has become precious simply because you can no longer return to it?
Who would you be happiest to see waiting for you when you come home?
Within the Collection
I Missed You belongs to the Foundations Collection, a body of work representing an important period of artistic development, experimentation, and observation.
These paintings document the years in which I was developing my understanding of portraiture, light, composition, and storytelling while discovering the subjects and ideas that naturally drew my attention.
Looking back, these works became more than individual paintings. Together, they represent the foundation from which my later practice continued to grow.
