The Question
What allows a painting to remain alive centuries after it was created?
How can studying the work of another artist deepen our own way of seeing?
About the Work
This painting marks the beginning of a new body of work inspired by Johannes Vermeer—an artist whose paintings continue to shape the way I observe light, stillness, and the quiet poetry of everyday life.
Although I originally imagined this work as part of a different series, it soon became clear that it belonged to something of its own. Like many artistic journeys, the direction evolved as the work itself unfolded.
Rather than recreating Vermeer’s paintings, this collection is an exploration of the qualities that continue to draw me back to his work: his extraordinary sensitivity to light, his quiet sense of presence, and the mystery that remains within his paintings centuries later.
Girl with a Pearl Earring has become one of the works I return to most often. Even after completing a master copy, I continue to discover something new each time I stand before it. That enduring sense of curiosity is what inspired this collection.
This painting is the first chapter of that exploration, and I look forward to returning to it as the journey continues.

From the Studio
Some paintings feel like conclusions.
Others feel like the beginning of a conversation.
This work became the first step in a longer dialogue with Vermeer. The more I study his paintings, the more I realize they cannot simply be copied—they must be observed, questioned, and experienced again and again.
Every return reveals something I had overlooked before.
Rather than trying to imitate his work, I hope to better understand the way he saw the world and to carry those lessons into my own paintings.

Within the Collection
The In Conversation with Vermeer Collection is an ongoing exploration of observation, light, and craftsmanship.
Each painting is part of a continuing conversation with one of the artists who has most deeply influenced my understanding of painting. Rather than seeking to reproduce his work, this collection explores the timeless qualities that continue to inspire my own artistic practice.
Like any lifelong study, the collection will continue to evolve as my understanding deepens.
