Why I Painted This

Before I ever understood
composition…

Vermeer taught me
how to slow down.

I believe we’ve all heard of something like ” Beast in human form”. That’s one of the thoughts I had that sparked the inspiration for this particular painting.

The Gift

Every portrait in this collection
begins with one question.

What gift has this person
given to the world?

For me…

Vermeer gave us…

Light.

Patience.

Quiet observation.

Questions for Reflection

Who has taught you to see differently?

Whose generosity has quietly shaped your life?

If you could thank one person with a portrait,
who would it be?

Reflection

While painting this portrait,
I found myself thinking about…

Though whatever may be on the outside may not likely be what’s on the inside.
For a beast, it’s hard for one to open up to others, mostly when others judge with prejudiced attitudes and opinions just upon looks and what is on the outer cover.

Seek something greater, that’s beyond the outer shell, beneath the mask, and what truly lies under it.
Only if you’re curious enough.
