I’m sure some artists had the same expression of who they were painting on the canvas. That was my expression and feeling while I was painting this portrait of Jean Valjean from Victor Hugo’s renowned story “Les Misérables.”

The high contrast between the dark and lights is as powerful and striking as the expression on his face and his realization of what had happened at that very moment. That’s when I thought of the name “Light & Shadow.”
